Mentoring Program for 2006




The Wharton MBA has long been associated with world-renowned business education and therefore the WPCF Mentoring Program intends to leverage on its network of talented alumni in order to promote ENTREPRENEURSHIP among our youth, further develop their skills and create for them a sustainable means of livelihood.



Rationale
- The WPCF is a business-related organization with an education focus.
- The program provides a quick solution to brain drain and an unsustainable economy.
- The Philippines has a very small number of entrepreneurs vs. total population.

Mentoring Matching Program

The mentors, who will be tapped from among Wharton Penn alumni, comprised of captains of industry, top business executives and entrepreneurs shall be matched with business scholars by providing guidance on how to successfully launch a micro business.

- The business scholars shall be required to present their project to a panel of judges selected by the WPCF Trustees.
- The winner chosen by the panel of judges is awarded project funding from the WPCF.

Mechanics of the Mentoring Program
- WPCF shall invite would-be entrepreneurs to apply.
- WPCF will hold an information session for applicants to explain the entire process as well as answer inquiries.
- Program Selection Committee will select 15 business scholars from pool of applicants.
- WPCF shall match each business scholar with a Wharton Penn alumnus to act as mentor based on the industry chosen.
- Mentor and scholar will meet on an as needed basis for a period of three (3) months to create a polished business plan.
- WPCF will conduct a bi-monthly entrepreneurial class/workshop to share business ideas, learn from co-participants and get free consultation from workshop ‘teacher’ and guest speaker.
- Business Scholars will present to Program Selection Committee
- Committee will select of 5-6 finalist scholars
- Finalist scholars will present business plan to a prestigious panel of judges.
- Winning scholar gets his/her project funded and monitored by WPCF.

Pre-qualifying criteria for scholars
- College graduate or at least 2-year equivalent of tertiary level education
- Between 20 to 25 years old
- Proof of limited financial means

Culminating Activity
- Business Plan Showdown in front of Panel of Judges
- Awarding of PhpP50,000 in project funding.
The WPCF reserves the right to refuse disbursement of funds for whatever reason such as misuse of funds, project failure, lack of progress.
